Will Ferrell: You're Welcome, America. A Final Night with George W. Bush Movie Review
Okay, I don't want to get political here but I am not ashamed to tell you that I think George W. Bush will go down in history as one of the worst Presidents ever of the United States of America. Whether I am right or wrong (doubtful) is left to history to decide but for 90 minutes, it appears that Will Ferrell at least agrees with my assessment. In this filming of his hit Broadway show at the Cort Theater in New York, Mr. Ferrell lampoons President Bush and brings out some of his best (or is it worst?) moments during his Presidency. But be warned, this is definitely not a show for the kiddies to watch (not thatthey would want to) as there is a small amount of nudity as the President shows off a photo of his genitals and there is a pretty steamy dance number involving Condoleeza Rice as a slithering vamp trying to seduce the President. I am not a huge Will Ferrell fan and he didn't exactly win me over in this piece of humor but, at times, I have to confess it was funny. I do think that die-hard Bush fans will be very offended and Democrats will find the show a joy to behold. Mr. Ferrell himself wrote the show and it was produced in part by his long-time collaborator Adam McKay (who directed him in "Talladega Nights"). I especially like the parts where the ex-President skewers the English language without realizing his buffoonery.
Because the show was filmed onstage, the lighting and sound are not excellent but still watchable. There are plenty of bonus features including, basically, a "Making of" documentary called ROAD TO BROADWAY and there is a semi-fun TRUE OR FALSE game which you may find fun. There is also an immensely enjoyable BUSH ON BUSH INTERVIEW with Mr. Ferrell that is very good. Aside from a mediocre show and the few bonus materials, there isn't a whole lot to stand up and cheer about. The show is sort of like those 8 years of the Presidents reign: Although it seems longer, you are glad when it is finally over.
