In the 1950s Hollywood tradition, an alien spaceship landed on Earth, and then was surrounded fearfully by military troops. "Planet 51" is true to the tradition, but this time, the ship comes from Earth, and it lands on a planet inhabited by little green men. It's still the 1950s, however.

'Planet 51,' funny? Only if you're on Planet Denial
When the computer-animated space adventure Planet 51 resorts to silly bathroom humor just 15 minutes after the opening credits, we know we're in for a sorry experience.
The idea had promise: The story is set on a distant planet populated by conventional-thinking beings that act a lot like Americans in the late '50s. They may be the color of split-pea soup and sport antennae, but philosophically, they're a lot like the folks in Leave It to Beaver.

Slapstick
Just how much of the slapstick-style comedy will be appreciated by kids is questionable, but the film clearly keeps them happy with bountiful color, movement and cheesy jokes.
Adults will also enjoy all the references to the older sci-fi flicks.
Thought it would be better

| User Reviews | I hate it when all the funniest parts of the movie are shown on the previews and that is exactly what happened with this movie. I felt like I had already seen it. This was a disappointment. |
Think the funny parts where all shown in the advertising, leaving nothing else for the movie. My 5-year old daughter was entertained but not like with Cars and some of the other kid movies. Overall, I think it didn't quite get there.
This movie was pretty good. I did enjoy it, but I think it is more of a movie for the younger kids. Like most films today, there are some things only the adults and older kids would get even though it is geared for the younger ones.
