The Disc
As vanilla disks go, this is a good one. Whether you rent or buy will depend on if you as a hard core war movie fan as I am. No extras to speak of, but the picture and sound are good.

Picture Quality: 8/10
I noticed a couple of instances of Pixilation. Other than that, the picture is quite good. I don't know what Fox used as source material for the disk, but I didn't see any scratches or spots you usually see on movies from this era.

Sound Quality: 7/10
The sound is mono, but then again, it was in mono to begin with. The dialogue is clear, and the battle sounds come through loud and clear.

Menu: 10/10
Nice use of images from the movie. Nice chapter selection. Easy to navigate.

Extra Features: 2/10
The DVD includes the original theatrical trailer for this and 9 other movies from the War Classics series. I wish someone at Fox had dug a little deeper in the archives for some news reel footage of the film's premiere, or for the historical events the film is based on. Can't have everything.

The Final Word:
If you are like me you'll be glad to have this in your library. The folks at FOX have done a nice job on this series. This is a vanilla disk, and it is probably priced $4.00 to high, but war fans will be glad to pay.
