Harry Burns: You realize of course that we could never be friends.
Sally Albright: Why not?
Harry Burns: What I'm saying is - and this is not a come-on in any way, shape or form - is that men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.
Sally Albright: That's not true. I have a number of men friends and there is no sex involved.
------------------------------------------
One of the early Nora Ephron (Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail) romantic comedies that she wrote
starring Billy Crystal (Harry) and Meg Ryan (Sally) proving the adage that Men and Women can not just be friends.
It starts with a chance meeting of Sally giving her roommate’s boyfriend (Harry) a ride from Chicago to New York City.
An argument ensues about Men being just friends with Women. They meet again five years later and spark up a friendship
with their argument still in the back of their minds.
The disc was surprisingly well done. There were a lot of extras I did not expect because of it being made in the 80's. It was loaded compared to a lot of other movies that were made quite a bit after (Trainspotting, Swingers which have NOTHING).
Picture Quality: 10/10
Good, clear transfer. 16x9 is a plus. No apparent layer switching problems.
Sound Quality: 10/10
Dolby Digital 5.1 Crisp sounds.
Menu: 10/10
A simple menu providing effortless navigation of the dvd. Easy access without clutter or time allowing for precision.
Extra Features: 8/10
The Commentary with Rob Reiner is similar to the Braveheart commentary with Mel Gibson. Very insiteful with pauses of commentary in scenes. I would have found it interesting with Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan offering insight to their focus, but you can't have everything.
I was surpised that they still had stashed somewhere never before scene footage, and I really enjoyed the scenes that they added.
The Making Of documentary (33 minutes) provided a lot of information on the influences and ideas that Reiner and Ephron had and their colloboration that became When Harry Met Sally.
The Final Word:
A great movie and a great dvd. A good flick to watch with a loved one on a rainy day and just an overall good romantic comedy.
