Review
You can check out Mac Verstandig's archived review if you click here. He hated this movie. I liked it.

Earth is destroyed by the evil Drej. A species composed of pure energy who are invulnerable. Mankind escapes as the earth is destroyed in an impressive sequence.

Cale (Matt Damon), the son of earth's greatest scientist learns years later that he has been genetically encoded with a map which will lead him and other survivors to the Titan. The Titan is a kind of Noahs ark space ship which has all the makings for a new planet including life forms. If anoly Cale can overcome his sense of betrayal at the desertion of him by his father to be the man he is suposed to be.

Cale and his group begin the trek to find Titan. Along the way they have run ins with various life forms, the Drej and a traitor among there own. All of this culminated in a great game of cat and mouse among an ice crystal field between Cale and the traitor. This is fiollowed by the great show down between good and evil as Cale battles the Drej.

As Mr. Verstandij said in his review, a lot of this stuff is derivative of many other films which came before. So was "Star Wars" but that doesn't matter if the filmmaker adds to those that came before.

Don Bluth has long and illustrious carrear as an animator. My kids grew up on his work. He breaks new ground here and Titan AE can stand tall among his past work. I like this movie.

The Disc
Good job. 20th Century Fox puts this movie on a pedestal. The extras are great. Kids will enjoy everything about this disc.

Picture Quality: 10/10
Great job.

Sound Quality: 10/10
Crisp and clear. There are lots of audio special effects, and you hear them all.

Menu: 7/10
Ok menu. I kinda got the impression the ripped off the Aliens menu, but still a good job. Just not original. I'm starting to sound like Mac.

Extra Features: 8/10
Enjoyed the commentary. The deleted scenes were interesting. Many of them are only the line drawings. Gives you some idea of the creative process. It was a nice way to show my kids some of the work that goes into filmmaking. The featurette was nothing special. It was OK, just nothing special.

The Final Word:
I got this for my 11 year old son. He loves it. I enjoyed it to. I look at this as a gateway DVD for kids. He's beginning to appreciate this new technology.
