Even though I liked the movie a little better than Craig Roush did, I'll refer you to his archived
review. Click here to access his review.
I'll also add my 2 cents worth and let you know why I give the movie a half a star more than Mr. Roush.
I didn't go see this in the theater because I thought I would hate it. I didn't like the premise of the
bed-ridden cop, solving a crime by remote control. That was nothing more than a handicap bias on my part.
Needless to say, I was pleasently surprised by the movie.
I liked the thing I thought I would hate. I thought the actors, director and screenwriter all pulled the
gimmick off magnificently. I liked the chemistry between Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie, Queen Latifah
and Luis Guisman.
I agree with Mr. Roush, that the mystery moved from point A-to-Z in a predictable manner.
I didn't think the revelation of the killer was as good as the rest of the movie. I
also agree that Michael Rooker's character was overbearing and stupid in order to try and deceive the audience.
Nice job. Good extras, sound, picture and menu.
Picture Quality: 9/10
A bit dark, but I believe that was intentional. It's a dark movie. I think the director tried to
capture the look of "se7en" but falls short.
Sound Quality: 10/10
Excellent. I was watching a particularly intense silent scene when suddenly something very loud happened
on the soundtrack. I jumped, spilling a major soft drink all over my wife's Afghan comforter. The sound
adds to the film's creepiness.
Menu: 10/10
Great use of sound and visuals. Very disturbing. Easy to navigate.
Extra Features: 8/10
OK commentary track and featurette. Glad they were there, but this isn't the kind of film which
deserves such treatment by the DVD distributor.
The Final Word:
A better treatment than a film of this caliber really deserves. I liked it more than I expected to.
However I'm glad I bought this for $5.00 in a pawn shop.
