Review
”He said he’d be back! Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the Terminator in this explosive action-adventure spectacle. Now he’s one of the good guys, sent back in time to protect John Connor, the boy destined to lead the freedom fighters of the future. Linda Hamilton reprises her role as Sarah Connor, John’s mother, a quintessential survivor whose warnings go unheeded by a world careening toward a nuclear holocaust she knows is inevitable. Together, the threesome must find a way to stop the ultimate enemy – the T-1000, the most lethal Terminator ever created. Co-written, produced and directed by James Cameron (The Terminator, Aliens, Titanic), this visual tour de force is also a touching human story of survival.” – Artisan James Cameron proved once again that sequels CAN be better than the originals. He did it with Aliens, and he's done it again with T2: Judgement Day. The expansion of the first film in this sequel is so inventive and noteworthy. We're not just offered some lame rehash of the original. Instead, we are offered a story worthy of praise while being compared to any great film of any decade. Top that with non stop action and groundbreaking effects, and we have one of the best science fiction films of all times.

This extended edition of the film (which could be viewed on the previous Ultimate Edition of the film as well) enhances the story that we saw in the theater. We're offered so much more depth in a film that already had enough. Arnold's Terminator is explored even moreso with the extended version. What a film!

The Disc
This disc is more of a companion piece with the Ultimate Edition released a couple years back. There aren't AS MANY extras as that previous release, but we are now offered MORE. Best of which is the James Cameron Audio Commentary! You can still watch the theatrical cut of the film if you click on the main menu, go to Sensory Control, and hit the right arrow on your remote 5 times. After you have done this, you will notice “The future is not set” appear on the right, and the theatrical version is now accessible.

Overall the Extreme Edition is the perfect buy! Besides the new extras, we are offered a completely new High Defination transfer that blows the Ultimate Edtion away. The picture has NEVER been better! Top that off with a sound transfer of the same quality and you have something that you need to buy.

Picture Quality: 10/10
Flawless. Completely flawless. I really can't say anything more. The darks are perfect, the colors are vibrant, the silver coating of the T-1000 is beyond real, etc. The high defination transfer offers one of the best pictures seen on DVD.

Sound Quality: 10/10
Once again, flawless. The sound effects are NEVER too much... they are right on, offering the type of boom that audiophiles desire. The bass is deep and the sound seperation is perfect. The dialogue is clear... even with the loud sound effects in the background.

Extra Features: 10/10
The commentary with Cameron and co-writer William Wisher is excellent. You hear Cameron's voice from the right speaker, and Wisher's from the left... which is a really cool effect.

The two additional featurettes are an extension of what you saw on the Ultimate edition... meaning that we learn some new behind the scenes info. The CR-ROM features are inventive as well.

The Final Word:
Wow. I guess I'm really just surprised by the difference in picture quality! I was hesitant to receive this disc, because I LOVE the Ultimate Edition, but like I said before, this is the perfect companion. I would have liked a few T3 tidbits mixed in there, but who am I to complain?
