Review
Tibor Takas directed this pilot film for the hit TV series "Sabrina the Teenage Witch." Based on the Archie Comics character, Sabrina (Melissa Joan Hart) is an ordinary girl being raised by her two aunts. She has all of the angst as any high school girl. As she turns 16, her aunts let her in on the family secret. She is a witch. This film was rightfully developed into a TV series. Ms. Hart is great as the girl next door. She is excited and frustrated by her new powers. It is nice to be able to cast spells, but her magic can't solve her deeper problems. And that is how it should be. The pilot film features some of the same actors who appeared in the series. Martin Mull is nowhere to be seen. Fortunately, the guy who voices Salem the cat in the movie was not hired for the series. My biggest complaint about the pilot was the voice of the cat. The pilot film centers around Sabrina moving to Riverdale and trying to fit in while the reigning school drama queen tries to sabotage Sabrina's every move.

The Disc
Fun family film. OK picture and sound. No extras. Vanilla DVD price.

Picture Quality: 7/10
The picture is shot in soft tomes. In have never found this style visually attractive. The colors tend to bleed into each other. No pixilation. A few delineation problems.

Sound Quality: 6/10
Dull soundtrack. Flat and tinny. No loss of dialogue, just not much depth.

Easter Eggs:
No Easter Eggs found during review.

Extra Features: 0/10
No extras, but priced to reflect the lack of extras.

The Final Word:
Fans will love this. My youngest has watched it 10 times so far. Fun family film with some good lessons for kids.
