Review
Twelve year old Mathilda (Natalie Portman) witnesses the death of her family after her father skims from the drugs he's been storing for two faced cop Norman Stansfield (Gary Oldman). She fins shelter in her neighbor Leon's apartment and soon discovers that he is a hitman for hire. She begs for his help in taking revenge for the death of her little brother and Leon soon finds himself mentor in the mission to avenge and save her life as well.

A brilliant move that deserves more accolades than it ever recieved. Natalie Portman's debut was phenominal... and Luc Besson's direction was both unique and character driven, focusing on teh relationship between the two and portraying Leon as a kind hearted soul who only kills because that is all he can do. What a film!

The Disc
This Superbit release is barebones due to the format's use of the whole disc primarily for sound and picture quality. But it's worth the buy for such a great flick.

Picture Quality: 8/10
The picture, while a great transfer, isn't as good compared to previous Superbit releases. The images are very soft, especially with the flesh tones. This could be due to the way the movie was shot, but regardless, it can sometimes be a bit too soft. However, the color is brilliant, along with the darks as well. Not too much grain overall.

Sound Quality: 8/10
While the surround is great during most of the gun battle scenes, I'm still left a little disappointed comparing this release to previous Superbit releases. The seperation isn't as good as it should have been in this format. While the effects of range are better than the average DVD release, as a Superbit, this could've been better. The score is brilliant though, and the dialogue can be heard very well apart from the chaos that ensues.

Easter Eggs:
No Easter Eggs found during review.

Extra Features: 0/10
Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Dolby, DTS Surround Sound

The Final Word:
No extras ofcourse, but this disc still is a cut above normal DVD releases in regards to picture and sound. Against other Superbit titles though, it fails. I'd recommend buying the 2000 Leon release rather than paying for the Superbit format for this title.
