Review
T.E. Lawrence, the legendary British officer who eventually united warring Arab factions in order to defeat the Turkish Empire, is a compelling and deeply woven character, and hero. Lawrence starts out as a clever young man, searching for a challenge worthy of his efforts. He's sent to find Prince Feisel, brilliantly played by the late Alec Guiness, in order to seek out information that could help the British from preventing a Turkish raid on the Suez Canal. This mission sends him on a quest that leads him to the challenges that he has always sought out for.

The film is an epic among epics, full of breathtaking cinematography, and amazing battle sequences. Lawrence deals with the themes of loyalty, fate, and diplomacy. Although we are left with a mere charicature of the true man himslef, his legend is what the film is truly about. This is indeed one of the best films ever made, with great performances by Peter O'Toole, Anthony Quin and Omar Sharif to name a few.

The Disc
This is not the special edition disc that we all crave for... however, it is a much cheaper way to own a classic for the pure sense of experiencing this film. The disc even includes the Overture, Entr'acte and Exit Music, which really gives us the full experience of the film's debut. SO when the screen is black for the first few minutes, with only music, don't worry.

Picture Quality: 9/10
A rich transfer! Full of the deepest blacks, and the brightest colors. Pretty good for an older film. The cinematography is near flawless, and the action scenes are spectacular.

Sound Quality: 8/10
The sound of the epic battles surround your room... you really feel like you are right there. My disc had a couple of sound lapses that lasted for a second, but nothing too drastic.

Menu: 9/10
The menu is animated, and gives us the epic music in the follow through. For a disc with no extras, they sure did spend a lot of time with this menu.

Extra Features: 2/10
Nada... but at least we get this film!

The Final Word:
A classic. An epic. And worth the buy if you don't want to fork over the money for the special edition. If you haven't seen this film, and you are a true film lover, then buy this disc. Don't rent it, buy it... because it's a must own!
