Review
"Lantana" was overlooked at the Oscars last year. This is unfortunate if only for the publicity a nomination might have brought this excellent drama. "Lantana" uses a murder mystery to uncover the multifaceted and unhappy lives of five main characters and a host of well developed supporting characters. "Lantana" is outstanding adult drama that is usually delegated to TV. If you missed the theatrical run of "Lantana," you should repent of that sin by checking out this excellent DVD. The Disc
Excellent movie, sound, picture and extras!

Picture Quality: 10/10
No pixilation, artifacts or delineation problems. The flesh tones are excellent. Most of the movie takes place indoors, so not much of the lush Australian countryside is on display.

Sound Quality: 10/10
Even the commentary track is in 5.1! Good sound. No distortion in the lower ranges. This is a character driven film. There aren't that many aural special effects. No loss of dialogue. Good balance between the dialogue and music on the soundtrack.

Menu: 8/10
OK design. Nothing special. Easy to navigate.

Extra Features: 10/10
"The Nature of Lantana" is a 45 minute behind the scenes look at the making of the movie. Many of these types of documentaries are run of the mill. This one is exceptional because of the many interesting actors and crew involved. There are interviews with all major cast members including Barbara Hershey, Anthony Lapaglia, Geoffrey Rush and production crew.

The commentary track is also quite good. You get a "down-under" perspective on filmmaking. Good trailer. Sneak peeks for several other Lion's Gate films are included.

The Final Word:
A great movie for grown ups and others desiring a movie that makes you think. Great performances all around.
