I took a some flack from some readers when I gave "Kiss of the Dragon" a rave 4-Star review on its
theatrical release. Upon further viewing, I shaved 1/2 a star for this review. I love the movie.
It is action packed, well acted and intelligently written. Stylish direction by Chris Nahon and high
production values due to Luc Besson result in a Great crime movie. I still stand by my original statement
that Bridget Fonda delivered an Oscar caliber performance. Whether or not FOX gets behind the actress
during the campaign is yet to be seen. I hope they do. The Oscars are mainly political and it would be a
shame for her performance to be overlooked because it wasn't part of an "Important Movie." To read my archived
review of "Kiss of the Dragon" click here.
Great movie. Great extras. Great picture and sound.
Picture Quality: 10/10
No artifacts in sight. The movie is beautifully photographed. The action scenes are exhilarating. Nothing was lost in the transfer.
Sound Quality: 10/10
Great driving rock and techno score during the fight scenes. There is a lot to hear in this movie. All the explosions, breaking bones, searing flesh and crashing glass engulfs you in a symphony of chaos. More snaps, crackles and pops that Rice Krispies!
Menu: 10/10
Great use of music and images from the movie. Easy to navigate. The Easter Egg is located on Jet Li's shirt on one of the extra menus.
Extra Features: 10/10
Great commentary track. The featurettes are very good. I especially enjoyed the Cory Yeun featurette.
During the Jet Li featurette, Mr. Li says that no cables or wires were used during the fight scenes. In another featurette, Mr. Li is shown hanging from a wire during the famous billiard ball kick. Oops!
Wish there had been more of Bridget Fonda on the extras. There are two women who could tempt me to leave my family. Bridget Fonda is one. (The other has a restraining order against me, so I won't go into that!)
I actually enjoyed the many different TV spots. Each had its own flavor.
The storyboard to film comparison is also quite good.
The Final Word:
I never liked Jet Li before this movie. I went into the theater with low expectations. I walked out elated. I was elated once again when the preview screener arrived from FOX Home Entertainment. This is well worth the price of admission. A great DVD. A movie which should take its place in the Guy-Movie Hall of Fame.
