Two 2-part episodes from the first season of Justice League are included in "Just League: Justice on Trial."
In the first two-parter, In Blackest Night, Green Lantern is put on trial for destroying a planet,
but the Justice League comes to his aid to uncover the real perpetrator of the crime.
In The Enemy Below the Justice League uses their super human strength to help Aquaman save his family and kingdom.
Though the show has its moments, the four episodes selected lack the sharp writing found in the superior "Batman: The Animated Series."
The weakest of the episodes is The Enemy Below, which delves into the story of Aquaman, easily the most useless character
in the Justice League world.
Fans of the series might be a little disappointed that only two two-part episodes of the Justice League series have been included,
but then again, they'd likely be disappointed with any number Warner Bros. had come up with.
Though a little light on the extras, solid video and audio quality anchor this decent disc.
Picture Quality: 8/10
A nice clean transfer from Warner Home Video. The colors are vibrant and faithful to the series. For those curious, traditional animated films seem to transfer much cleaner to DVD than live-action, simply due to the amount of color information carried in the bit-stream.
Sound Quality: 8/10
A very convincing audio track. Dialogue was crisp, despite the two-channel surround transfer. Audio tracks featured in English,
Spanish and Portuguese. Subtitles in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
Menu: 8/10
Nice, simple menu system.
No Easter Eggs found during review
Extra Features: 6/10
Episode Introductions with Producer/Director Bruce Timm is a general introduction about the "Justice League" series.
The Look of the League is a nice little featurette, albeit a shallow one, about how
animators honed the look of the characters in the series.
Justice League Watchtower is essentially an interactive bio sheet
for each of the main characters. I.D. is a trivia game for more die-hard fans of the series.
The Final Word:
While more extra features would have been nice, the key point is that the audio and video quality for the four episodes are very good.
So-so series, good disc. Still, one wishes Warner Bros. put a tad bit more effort into the creation of these discs.
