Review
Ralph Bakshi should never be allowed to direct a live action film. Granted, even his animated films like "Fritz the Cat," "American Pop," and "The Lord of the Rings" are really just live action films that have been painted over, but at least those films have a certain trippy panache. Films like "Cool and the Crazy" on the other hand, have no panache at all.

Alicia Silverstone and Jared Leto star as a young couple who marry fresh out of high school. The time is the Fifties, when marriages like this were more common, and when temptation came in the form of a leather jacket. . .

Sound like the back of a video box? That's because the worthwhile stuff in this film amounts to no more than a cliché that can fit on the back of a box. We know that Silverstone is going to cheat on her hardworking husband with the "bad boy." We know that there will be hotrods and beaches. We know that everything will end badly. We also know that we've seen all of this before, and that it has been done much better. Worst of all, we know that this is a Ralph Bakshi film, and that there will be no animation. How is that possible? I'll tell you how. . .Showtime Original Movies. Give me a break.

The Disc
Just plain crap.

Picture Quality: 6/10
Whatever. Made-for-television stuff that was made with a bargain basement camera. No transfer necessary, and no visual information that needs any sort of love.

Sound Quality: 6/10
Okay, but nobody really needs to hear what Alicia Silverstone is saying. Please don't let her come back. It was so nice without her.

Easter Eggs:
None found.

Extra Features: 0/10
Who needs features on a movie that can't compete with the special features on "Gigli?"

The Final Word:
"Happy Days" meets "Rebel Without a Cause," and smokes some of whatever Bakshi's been smoking for the last thirty years.
