Review
Hip, funny send up of James Bond and their ilk. Dr. Broady (Jeff Goldblum) is working on serum which will cure all humans of dog allergies. Unbeknownst to Dr. Broady, he is being protected by a group of sophisticated agents who also happen to be dogs. He is being protected from the evil machinations of megalomaniac evil kitty, Mr. Tinkles (voice of Sean Hayes). When the seasoned agent protecting Dr. Broady is cat-napped, a rookie pup named Lou (voice of Toby McGuire) is elected to protect the good doctor.

The plot is preposterous but who cares. This is great fun for kids of all ages. Knockout special effects. Tons of in-jokes and great special effects. A family movie that works for the whole family. In addition to those already listed, the movie stars Elizabeth Perkins and the vocal talents of Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, Joe Pantoliano, Michael Clarke Duncan, Jon Lovitz and Charlton Heston.

The Disc
Great movie, sound and picture. Good extras.

Picture Quality: 10/10
Sharp clear picture. Nice transfer. Good flesh tones. The animal's CGI fur looks good. Nice nighttime scenes, especially the aerial attack by the cats.

Sound Quality: 10/10
Excellent use of the surround sound. There are several fight scenes in which cats and dogs chase each other through the house. A couple of time I could have sworn a cat was running around my living room.

Menu: 6/10
Great design, but it is the most complicated menu I've ever tried to use. Very hard to navigate. It frustrated my kids until they saw I had problems with it. It is meant to be a fun menu, but somebody forgot that sometimes 'less is more.'

Extra Features: 7/10
For me, the commentary track on this one would have been enough of an extra. Well done. Informative and funny.

The documentaries were good. I don't think I was in the mood to see them when I did. They have some cool stuff in them from a technical standpoint, but with a movie this fun, why over-examine it.

Lame trivia game. I didn't even access the DVD ROM features, but they include an alternate ending, create secret IDs for pets, artwork gallery, screen savers and wallpaper.

The Final Word:
This one is a keeper. I'll buy it when the time comes, but I'm glad I rented it. Fun for everyone. Good job Warner Brothers.

Living proof that cafeDVD.com has a wide variety of movies. I rented a children's movie, a lesbian love story and two campy horror movies. Check them out. You'll never go back to your local video outlet, except to pay late fees!
