Torrence (Kirsten Duntz) has been elected captain of the Rancho Carne cheerleaders. She feels the weight of the squads previous five national cheerleading championships. She also finds herself attracted to the new kids at school, Cliff. The tension arrises when Cliff's anarchist sister, Missy reveals that the squads previous captain stole their routines from a funky cheer squad from Compton. Do they cheat or make up their own routines? Will Cliff and Torrence find true love? Will the poor girls from Comton raise enough money to compete in the nationals in Florida? For answers to these and other urgent questions, rent the DVD.
I watched this movie with my 14 year old daughter and 11 year old son. They remind me of Torrence and her little brother in the movie. I was surprised how much I liked this movie. The script is funny. The acting good for this sort. The characters were likable if stereotypical. The values positive.
Nice job. Good picture, nice extras. Commentary track was OK, but then director Reed is a newcomer. Glad they cut the deleted scenes as they added an ugliness to the story which was otherwise missing.
Picture Quality: 10/10
Nice transfer.
Sound Quality: 10/10
Great soundtrack. Pulsing sounds.
Menu: 7/10
Simple and easy to navigate. Good use of music.
Extra Features: 8/10
The extras are extensive and well done, but this isn't "Citizen Kane."
The Final Word:
A fun movie with good values. One may disagree with cheerleading as a way to advance for women, but the challanges faced and the way they are dealt with give a positive message. Funny script. Enjoyable bubblegum.
