Review
I would have rated this DVD much higher if not for the fact that the movie has been colorized. And colorized quite poorly to boot! "Blood on the Sun" is an interesting tale of pre-WWII intrigue in Japan. Based on a true story, James Cagney plays a journalist who uncovers plans by military leaders to not only attack the USA, but rule the world.

Cagney is good in this average film. He lifts the proceedings to a higher level than they deserve. The big problem with "Blood on the Sun" is the inconsistent way the Japanese characters are portrayed. They run from three dimensional, to racist stereotypes, to unrealistic nobility. Granted, this film was made toward the end of WWII and such treatment of 'the enemy' was common place. Today, the film seems dated. Sylvia Sydney is good. Robert Armstrong (King Kong) plays General Tojo. Armstrong was always a stilted actor. This role suits his vocal talents as his character speaks in Pidgin English.

The Disc
Fair movie. Terrible p[icture. OK sound. No extras.

Picture Quality: 0/10
This movie is poorly colorized. I don't understand why the colorization of films ever caught on. In fact, I thought it was a thing of the past until I received this DVD. I know I can change the settings on my TV to watch it in black and white, but I'd rather not. Don't mess with the artist's work.

Sound Quality: 8/10
The soundtrack is very good. Nice balance between the ranges. The track was re-recorded in stereo. Rich, full tones.

Easter Eggs:
No Easter Eggs found during review.

Extra Features: 0/10
No extras.

The Final Word:
The movie itself is not bad. If you don't mind faded, pastel colorization, then you might like this disk. Catch it on the late show instead.
