Comics come to life in this outstanding horror/action film. Blade (Wesley Snipes) is the Day Walker. Part human, part vampire, all bad ass vampire slayer. An excellent blend of character, action and special effects. "Click here" to read Craig Roush's archived review from the film's theatrical release.
This DVD has been out a long time. It is still one of the best. Excellent picture and sound. Great extras. All built around a great horror film. This disk is the best way to view the movie now that you can't see it on the big screen.
Picture Quality: 10/10
A vampire movie naturally takes place in the dark. This film is dark in tone as well as visually dark. The picture is excellent. Unlike the picture on the equally dark "The Crow" the viewer misses none of the detail.
Sound Quality: 10/10
Set up the home theater surround sound system and try not to dance during the opening vampire rave. The movie won an Oscar for its sound effects. They are all here on the DVD to enjoy.
Menu: 6/10
With this much material on a disk there is a risk that the menu isn't easy to navigate. While the menu is visually exciting it gets confusing at times. Not as easy to navigate as it could be.
Extra Features: 10/10
Great commentary track. I especially enjoyed the featurette "The Origin of Blade" detailing the comic book origins of the movie. Nice interview with the Godfather of comics Stan Lee. Loads of extras for your PC if you can't get enough of the DVD features.
The Final Word:
Excellent movie. One of the best DVDs I've run across. More than worth the price of admission.
