John Cusack stars as Lane Meyer, a high school student whose will to live disappears when his girlfriend, Beth, leaves him for the captain of the school ski team. After several bumbled suicide attempts, Lane believes that he must beat Roy at a downhill skiing competition to regain Beth’s love. Finding strength for the competition through his new friendship with Monique Junotthe, the French foreign exchange student living across the street, Lane finds that life is worth living after all.
This is classic John Cusack through and through. His sarcastic gaze, with that born to be a loser luck, creates wonderful comedy. The humor gets a bit ridiculous and too weird a times (talking hamburger, animated creatures), but the film is still a funny romp. Although I still prefer Cusack's much better ONE CRAZY SUMMER.
The disc itself is a bore with NO extras to speak of. We are left with only a still image from the film.
Picture Quality: 7/10
The transfer is surprisingly good, with a few flaws here and there. For an older film, the colors and blacks aren't as bad as you would expect.
Sound Quality: 7/10
The sound offers Dolby Digital and English Stereo... not much of a difference either way with a film like this.
Menu: 5/10
Just your average still image.
Extra Features: 1/10

The Final Word:
The film is a blast... yet another 80s classic that is a must have. Although the DVD lacks ANY depth in regards to extras, it's worth the buy for the film itself. Cusack is a comedy hero, and his early days are the best.
