Review
Entertaining action fluff. Flirts with dealing seriously with the atrocities perpetrated in Bosnia, but falls short of becoming a serious film. Such use of the genocide issue is almost insulting to those who died at the hands of Milosovic and his henchmen. To read Andy Zientek's archived review CLICK HERE.

The Disc
Good movie. Great picture, sound and extras. Reasonable price for everything included.

Picture Quality: 10/10
Outstanding picture. great flesh tones. No pixilation or artifacts. Excellent delineation between light and dark colors.

Sound Quality: 10/10
Excellent use of surround feature. The home theater system will shake the walls with this one. The scene in which Owen Wilson runs through the center of a mine field is an aural standout.

Extra Features: 10/10
Two commentary tracks. I like the one by director Moore and editor Smith better than the one by the producers, but both are entertaining and informative.

The deleted scenes show that this film was originally much darker and violent. There is a warning to people under 17 on the deleted scenes menu, so I would assume that the film was going to be rated R with the scenes intact. What you have are some truly disturbing scenes of rotting corpses in a mass grave, including one of an infant, and graphic deaths during the battle in the town of Hac. What happened in Bosnia is a complex and tragic tale. This movie was designed to provide brainless entertainment. I think it was wise to cut back on these scenes as it would be exploiting tragedy to sell popcorn. Watching this with my son caused him to ask what that war was about. I'll watch "No Man's Land" with him to answer that question.

The behind the scenes featurette is OK. It compliments the two commentary track. The trailer is OK. I just wish I could find that darn Easter Egg!

The Final Word:
Worth the price of admission. A good guy movie. Reasonably priced for all of the extras this one is loaded with.
