Review
In the original five episodes of the Emmy-winning Batman The Animated Series, Batman must battle The Joker, The Scarecrow, Poison Ivy and more to protect Gotham City. The series has won over fans of all generations based on the fabulous writing and equally solid voice talents (Mark Hamill as The Joker is my favorite).

Based on production order, not airdate order -- (1) "On Leather Wings", (2) "Christmas with the Joker", (3) "Nothing to Fear", (4) "The Last Laugh", and (5) "Pretty Poison". Respectively, these episodes are the spectacular pilot with Man-Bat, a lighthearted Joker story, a pretty good Scarecrow story, another (slightly better) Joker story and the origin story of Poison Ivy.

The Disc
Fans of the series might be a little disappointed that only the first five episodes of this fantastic series have been included, but then again, they'd likely be disappointed with any number Warner Bros. had come up with. Kudos to the studio for laying out the episodes in production order. Though a little light on the extras, solid video and audio quality anchor this nice disc.

Picture Quality: 8/10
A nice clean transfer from Warner Home Video. The colors are vibrant and faithful to the series. For those curious, traditional animated films seem to transfer much cleaner to DVD than live-action, simply due to the amount of color information carried in the bit-stream.

Sound Quality: 8/10
A very convincing audio track. Dialogue was crisp, despite the two-channel surround transfer.

Menu: 8/10
Nice, simple menu system.

Extra Features: 5/10
Nice conversation with Director Bruce Timm, as well as an interesting "How to Draw BATMAN" section that's fun for the artist in us all.

The Final Word:
While more extra features would have been nice, you'll be getting no complaints from me. Great series, nice disc. Fans of "Batman: The Animated Series" should be thrilled.
