Nic Cage will return to the neither good nor bad "Ghost Rider" role in a sequel that Columbia Pictures (a.k.a. Sony), has greenlit.  David Goyer, of "Batman Begins" and "Blade" writing fame, isn't signed yet, but is expected to shortly.  A script he wrote years ago but was never produced may be the basis for the sequel.  Mark Stven Johnson wrote and directed the first film, which actually made some money despite Nic Cage's terrible haircut and the overall clueless majority of the audience who had no clue what or who "Ghost Rider" was (if you are one of these people, "Ghost Rider" is a classic Marvel comic).

THE RETURN OF

Get this.  Remember that 1986 film that introduced the world to Jeff Goldblum as the nutty actor he is?  Well, it's coming back baby!  In an interesting turn of events original director David Cronenberg is reported as developing the new version of the film.  This is interesting considering that in 2004 and 2005 Todd Lincoln was hired to write a new screenplay for "The Fly" but nothng ever happened with it.  The speculation is that the studio was waiting for Cronenberg to get back involved before moving forward.

Not sure at this point what kind of a remake this is gong to be.  However, you have to find it interesting when an original director of a film remakes that film into something different.  Kinda like, "Hey this was a smash it before...but now I can make it better.  DO OVER!".  Who knows?  But I was a big fan of this movie when it came out and I will be looking forward to it when it comes out.

PICS OF SMITH AND CHAN FROM

I was a little blah on the announcement of a "Karate Kid" remake with Will Smith's son Jaden starring... until Jackie Chan signed on... and then until they changed the title to the much better "The Kung Fu Kid".  I love Chan and feel that he really hasn't been TRULY discovered by America yet, despite his success with those lackluster "Rush Hour" flicks, and the "Shanghai" ones as well.

The only question mark here in my opinion is Jaden Smith.  He's a little young for the part.  Time will tell.  I'm thinking that this role will offer Jackie a better chance to prove his range and appeal.

Anyway, here are some pics.  Click read more for, well, more...

SUMMIT NABS DIRECTOR AND PRODUCER FOR

Summit Entertainment has tapped Justin Lin ("Fast and Furious", "Better Luck Tomorrow") to direct and Neal H. Moritz to produce a remake of the classic 1986 flick "Highlander".   The orginal 1986 film was directed by Russell Mulcahy and starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown and Roxanne Hart. It launched four crappy sequels and three TV spinoffs.

"Highlander" is near and dear to my heart... and I am addressing only the original.  The first TV series was a worthy effort, if not a bit boring, but the sequels were basically horrendous.  There are about three different versions of "Highlander 2" and all of them are terrible.

So I'm all up for a remake to be honest.  Plans are to stay true to the concept of the original "Highlander" premise of immortals hunting each other through the ages. The new pic will center on the immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, who must confront a murderous barbarian who lusts for a fabled prize. Just please... no overuse of CG.  Plain and simple.  Guys with swords and make the sword battles real and brutal like the original.  And no Mario Van Peebles!

LIONSGATE TO DISTRIBUTE STEPHEN GAGHAN'S NEXT

"Traffic" writer Stephen Gaghan is set to write and direct an untitled action thriller for Lionsgate.  The film will be Gaghan's next directorial project after "Syriana", which nabbed an Oscar for star George Clooney.

The film will tell the story of an elite deep cover operative whose attempt to take down a global organization costs him everything. He resurfaces as a beat cop in Brooklyn, only to discover that the bad guys he was fighting are also operating in his new backyard.

DIABLO CODY READY TO ATTEND

Diablo Cody has signed on to write and produce an adaptation of the "Sweet Valley High" novels created by Francine Pascal and published by Random House.

The "Sweet Valley" novels followed the lives of identical twins with dissimilar personalities -- the sensitive and practical Elizabeth and the flighty and boy-crazy Jessica -- in the fictional town of Sweet Valley. There were more than 150 books in the series between 1983 and 2003 and a TV series with 88 episodes between 1994 and 1997.

Personally, while I thought "Juno" was a great flick and worthy of multiple viewings, I have gotten a little tired of "Cody Speak", as I like to call it.  If you're familiar with her column in Entertainment Weekly, you'll see what I mean.

Her dialogue and wit is cute, but it's also getting old and one dimensional.  I'm just hoping she evolves. Then again, I may just be jealous of her screenwriting success...lol.

JOHNSON AND JACKSON ARE THE

Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson have signed onto Columbia's "The Other Guys".  Adam McKay is set to helm while Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play the title characters.

Johnson and Jackson will play an elite and cocky cop tandem whose exploits are the envy of the department, and the second-tier cops played by Ferrell and Wahlberg.

I'm still not sold on Dwayne Johnson's appeal as an actor.  Sure, he looks like a movie action star but he just can't deliver an honest line if you ask me.  All I see is The Rock reciting a line from a script.

FINCHER GETS A CAST FOR HIS

So here's plenty of weird, but true news.  Columbia Pictures is making a movie about the creators of Facebook.  Weird.  David Fincher ("Fight Club", The Zodiac", etc.) is directing it.  Even more weird.  And now we have news that Justin Timberlake will star in a movie about the creators of Facebook, directed by the great David Fincher.  Timberlake will portray Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder who became Facebook's founding president.

Jesse Eisenberg will play founder Mark Zuckerberg and Andrew Garfield will play Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder who fell out with Zuckerberg as the social network became a financial juggernaut.

The story follows the lives of the founders of Facebook in 2004 and how they dealt with the eventual success.

Want to hear another weird thing... the great Aaron Sorkin wrote the script.

DONNER CONFIRMS INTEREST IN

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner recently revealed that talks about a fourth "X-Men" have started, in regards to bringing back the characters that survived the last film "X-Men:  The Last Stand", which in my opinion was a lackluster third installment.

She did say that the idea hasn't been pitched to the studio as of yet though.

I'd be up for a sequel, rather than multiple spin-offs that have been announced.  I'm really not interested in the "X-Men:  First Class" project that is being developed, nor the possible "Magneto" origin.  Just give me "X-Men" movies people!
