Bryan Jay O’Byrne, Feb. 6, 1931 – Dec. 4, 2009, popular character actor since the 1950’s with a career spanning over 40 years, has died in Pacifica, Calif. He was 78.
He often portrayed a clerk or an agent like the clerk in “The Untouchables,” the ticket agent in ‘The Fugitive,” the depot agent in “Death Valley Days,” a clerk in “Gunsmoke,” and a hotel clerk in “Killer by Night.” He was a pet shop owner in “Bewitched” and the character of Hodgkins in 5 episodes of “Get Smart.”
Through the 1980s and 90s, Bryan O’Byrne often played some kind of man of the cloth such as one of the ministers in the 1978 “Getting Married.” He was the priest in the elevator in “Love at First Bite,” Father Murray in “Zapped!” and Reverend Simmons in “Murder She Wrote.” There was a Father Stills character, a Father Killion and Rev. Wallace in “Step by Step.”
