NBC CANCELS "SOUTHLAND"

NBC CANCELS

NBC has cancelled the sophomore season of the cop drama "Southland", which starred former "O.C." star Ben McKenzie.   The series was about L.A. beat cops, chronicling the underbelly of crime and police work in Los Angeles.

Apparently it's an issue of lack of timeslots.  The show is critically acclaimed but they have to choose either that, or the news mag "Dateline", which draws in roughly 8 million and they're figuring that "Southland" wouldn't be able to do much better.

However, porducer John Wells ensured that they will be shopping the show to other networks.  "I'm disappointed that NBC no longer has the time periods available to support the kind of critically acclaimed series that was for so many years a hallmark of their success," Wells said in a prepared statement. "We remain extremely proud of 'Southland' and are actively looking for another home for the series."

Take it to FX!  Then you can show viewers some skin and throw in some profanity as well.  "Shield" is gone, bring on "Southland"!
